Full Solar disk and close-up of filaments. Lunt 50THa and GPCam2 130M.
This blog contains experiences and experiments with my solar telescope. I currently own a Lunt LS50THa Hydrogen Alpha telescope and take images with an Altair GPCAM2 130M camera, dispersion prism (to remove Newton's rings) and a barlow lens element.

Nice prominence on the Sun today, not great images as they were taken through thin cloud. Lunt 50THa and GPCam2 130M.

Lunt LS50 THa & Altair GPCAM2 130M. I tried for a mosaic but Altair Capture software only took 100 frames instead of 500 for most of it so the results were no good.

2019-04-11 AR2738
After another long break with very little solar activity, I'm back. Slightly different setup now, I'm using the camera a prime focus without the dispersion prism, but with the nose piece cross threaded to create a tilt effect to remove the Newtons rings. Also just a single frame so the small blocking filter and small sweet spot is visible in the image.

2018-06-27 Disk and prom
After 8 months without using my Lunt due to a divorce and house move, a set of full disk images (3x2 mosaic).

2017-10-08 Nice Prom
Clear blue skies until the Sun got high enough over houses to image and then BANG cloud appeared from nowhere. However during a brief break I managed to capture a nice prom. Nothing much on the disk today.

19/09/2017 New camera
I had the first chance to try my new solar camera and here are the results. The camera is an Altair GPCAMv2 130 Mono. As expected from the QE graph this is 20%-25% more sensitive than my previous camera (ASI120MM) & the noise levels appear low. I have also added a 2° dispersion prism, to remove Newtons Rings, to the image train.
Looking at the images there are some marks on the sensor of the new camera, probably from when I cleaned some dust off it. I have now cleaned it again and hopefully removed these, just need to wait for some clear skies to try again.

20/08/2017 AR2671 First animation attempt
My first attempt at an animation, cut a bit short due to cloud. Not great due to newtons rings and poor polar alignment giving image rotation.
20/08/2017 AR2671
Today the clouds stayed away so I could complete the mosaic, AR2671 is looking good, also looks like another AR is just coming around the limb.

19/08/2017 AR2671
Unfortunately there wasn't a big enough gap in the clouds to complete the mosaic today, however AR2671 has grown over the last two days since I last observed it.
