Clear blue skies until the Sun got high enough over houses to image and then BANG cloud appeared from nowhere. However during a brief break I managed to capture a nice prom. Nothing much on the disk today.
This blog contains experiences and experiments with my solar telescope. I currently own a Lunt LS50THa Hydrogen Alpha telescope and take images with an Altair GPCAM2 130M camera, dispersion prism (to remove Newton's rings) and a barlow lens element.

Second outing for my new Altair GPCAMv2 130, Lunt LS50THa, dispersion prism, & barlow element. 3x2 mosaic.

19/09/2017 New camera
I had the first chance to try my new solar camera and here are the results. The camera is an Altair GPCAMv2 130 Mono. As expected from the QE graph this is 20%-25% more sensitive than my previous camera (ASI120MM) & the noise levels appear low. I have also added a 2° dispersion prism, to remove Newtons Rings, to the image train.
Looking at the images there are some marks on the sensor of the new camera, probably from when I cleaned some dust off it. I have now cleaned it again and hopefully removed these, just need to wait for some clear skies to try again.

20/08/2017 AR2671 First animation attempt
My first attempt at an animation, cut a bit short due to cloud. Not great due to newtons rings and poor polar alignment giving image rotation.
20/08/2017 AR2671
Today the clouds stayed away so I could complete the mosaic, AR2671 is looking good, also looks like another AR is just coming around the limb.

Unfortunately there wasn't a big enough gap in the clouds to complete the mosaic today, however AR2671 has grown over the last two days since I last observed it.

Lunt LS50THa, ASI120MM + SW 2x Barlow element 6 pane mosaic.
The next two closeups were a bit of an experiment, combining the 2x barlow element with a 3x barlow element for bigger closeups of a prominence and the active region. Though the seeing was reasonable I think they are pushing the LS50THa a bit far.

Sun 08/07/17 Nice prominence and active region
Both a nice prominence and active region on view.
Images taken with a Lunt LS50THa, ASI120MM and the lens from a SW 2x barlow on the camera nose piece, giving an effective focal length of about 600mm.
For the prominence picture I captured 3000 frames and stacked the best 200.
Yet again ICE and AutoStitch failed to merge the mosaic so 2x3 mosaic created manually with iMerge and coloured in Photoshop.
